Kristin Calver

Kristin Calver (pictured) and Samantha Sweet have been appointed deputy commissioners at the Department of Corrections and Department of Mental Health, respectively. Both appointments are effective immediately.

Calver formerly served as executive director of finance at Corrections. In her new role, she will support the commissioner in meeting the corrections department’s statutory, regulatory and policy obligations and lead the department’s executive leadership team.

“Kristin has long been a widely trusted and respected leader within our department,” said Department of Corrections Commissioner Nick Deml. “She leads with compassion and a deep commitment to those we serve.”

Sweet, a licensed social worker, formerly served as director of mental health at the Department of Mental Health. Her new duties include helping to oversee and manage Vermont's mental health system of care, focusing on integrating substance use and physical health care with mental health services and enhancing the crisis system of care.

"Samantha will continue to support the department's work with her systems expertise and deep understanding of state operations," said Department of Mental Health Commissioner Emily Hawes. "We are thrilled about the opportunity for Samantha to bring her experience and vision to this leadership role."
