Barber, Waxman Named Fellows of American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Burlington attorneys Amber L. Barber and Caryn E. Waxman of the law firm Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC have been selected as fellows of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. AAML fellows are generally recognized by judges and attorneys as preeminent family law practitioners with a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity.

“Inclusion in this prestigious Academy is well-deserved recognition of the excellence and dedication Caryn and Amber demonstrate on behalf of their clients on a daily basis,” said Paul H. Ode, Jr., the firm’s CEO and managing partner.

Barber and Waxman co-chair DRM’s Family Law Group and represent matrimonial and family law clients throughout Vermont. Both are members of the Family Law Section of the Vermont Bar Association and present advanced trainings in family law matters.

Barber serves as an elected member of the VBA Board of Managers. She recently helped to draft Vermont’s Military Parental Rights Act and testified before the legislature about the protections the bill offers to children when a divorced parent is deployed. Barber is a 1996 graduate of Albany Law School of Union University.

Waxman teaches pro-se education at Chittenden Family Court. She is a member of the Class of 2010 of Leadership Champlain, a leadership development program sponsored by the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce. Waxman received her law degree from Vermont Law School in 1996.

DRM’s Family Law Group provides advice, guidance and a comprehensive range of legal services including divorce and child custody, complex matrimonial actions involving complicated business valuations, division of pension and retirement plans, stock portfolios, real property and other associated marital assets.

AAML members must pass written and oral examinations; receive recognition as first-rate matrimonial lawyers by judges and peers, aspire to high ethical standards and demonstrate involvement in activities that elevate the standards and improve the practice of matrimonial law, such as advancing legislation or providing continuing education.
