Vermont author’s forthcoming book chronicles state’s positive changes

Rootstock Publishing, a Montpelier-based publisher and imprint of Multicultural Media, announces the March 29 release of "Catalysts for Change: How Nonprofits and a Foundation Are Helping Shape Vermont’s Future," the 18th book by Weybridge author Doug Wilhelm. Wilhelm’s last Rootstock book, the 2019 young-adult novel "Street of Storytellers," won three national awards and one New England gold medal for independently published books.

"Catalysts for Change" is the nonfiction account of how a range of Vermont nonprofit organizations have succeeded, with support from the Lintilhac Foundation of Shelburne, in making long-term positive impacts on challenges that face the state in journalism, environmental protection, clean energy, maternal and child well-being, and land conservation.

“This book is filled with inspiring gems,” said Paul Burns, executive director of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group. “It tells true stories of transformative change in Vermont.”

Wilhelm is a former Vermont reporter for The Boston Globe, and has been a full-time self-employed writer and editor in Vermont for the past 35 years. He has written 17 books for young readers, including "The Revealers" (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2003), which was the focus of reading and discussion projects in more than 1,000 schools in the US and internationally.
