School principal named Advocacy Champion of Year by NASSP

Chris Young (center), principal of North Country Union High School in Newport, has been named 2024 Advocacy Champion of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

The award is given annually to a school leader who has worked to elevate the voice and influence of school leaders in federal, state and local policy decisions. Young was cited for his advocacy of policies to address mental health and educator shortage crises in schools.

Young has served as principal of North Country Union since 2019. He was previously named 2023 Vermont NASSP Principal of the Year and has served since 2020 as the NASSP's Vermont state coordinator.
