With a career as a professional equestrian which spans four decades, Richard has lived all over the United States and Europe. He discovered Vermont 10 years ago while judging at the Vermont Summer Festival, one of southern Vermont's premier summer events. He was captivated by the beauty of the Green Mountains, the sense of community, and the broad offering of cultural affairs, and decided to make it home.
As an equestrian, Richard has owned and operated businesses where he trained both horses and riders to compete on the international stage of the hunter/jumper and equitation world. His record of pairing riders and horses as successful partners in competition is noteworthy. He is a lifetime member of the United States Equestrian Federation and an "R" rated judge since 1989. He continues to officiate at some of America's top competitions from coast to coast.
Richard lives in Manchester with his partner, Ramsay Gourd, a prominent architect, and their two dogs, Chez, a wire-haired dachshund and Fresco, a lucky terrier rescue. When not working, they spend time with their horses, hiking the Taconic and Green Mountains, and exploring Vermont's many cultural offerings as well as connecting with friends at their home on Martha's Vineyard.
As one of Sotheby's newest agents, Richard brings a long history as a past client both domestically and internationally, giving him a keen insight and sensitivity to the needs of both buyers and sellers.
