The North Hero House is pleased to welcome Jean-Luc Matecat as its new head chef. Chef Matecat is a native Vermonter with family roots in France who has the perfect blend of experience and cultural heritage to bring a European influence to the food of New England served at the North Hero House. In the most recent three years Mr. Matecat was executive chef at Cinco Restaurant, a Zagat-rated eatery on Nantucket Island. Prior to Cinco, he was executive chef at the Warren House Restaurant in Warren, VT. Chef Matecat graduated first in his class from Cabrillo College Culinary Program and completed his stagiaire experience at La Montrachet, a Michelin star-rated restaurant in Burgundy, France. Growing up he attended NECI Kids Cooking School and spent summers with family in France where he was immersed in French food and culture. Chef Matecat is a fervent supporter of Vermont agriculture and commerce. The North Hero House is a member of the Vermont Fresh Network and prepares many menu selections with local ingredients. Walt Blasberg, owner of the North Hero House says: “We are excited to have a chef of Jean-Luc’s caliber join the North Hero House and will introduce his new menu this week. We grow many of our own vegetables and herbs and are delighted to have Jean-Luc support his menu with ideas for the Inn’s garden.”
