Flyin Ryan announces four new Adventure Scholarship recipients

Flyin Ryan is proud to announce the addition of four new Adventure Scholarship recipients to their Adventure Scholar family: Karina Jorgensen-Fullam, Kelly Hilleke, Irian Adii and Daniel Hilleke.

Karina is an 18 year old competitive freeride skier based out of Whistler, British Columbia and a former Flyin Ryan Spirit Award recipient. She has been competing in freeride skiing since 2014 and despite enduring three season-ending injuries in that time, her passion for the sport has not wavered. This year she is taking a year off between high school and university to focus solely on pursuing her passion for freeride skiing. Her award will go toward costs associated with her training.

Kelly is a 14 year old outdoor adventurer from Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The oldest of four boys, Kelly grew up playing in the mountains. This past summer he climbed and skied Mt. Sopris in Carbondale, CO for the 10th time and paddled the entire 100 miles of Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. He is using his award to compete in the 2020 NORAM championships.

Irian is a 15 year old freestyle skier at Smugglers Notch Resort who has been competitively skiing since 2015. This year she joined her school’s alpine team and one of her main goals for the season would be to qualify to participate in the North American Junior Freeride Championships and travel with her team to Crystal Mountain in Washington State. She plans to use her award toward freeski competitions and to travel with her team to the North American Junior Freeride Championships at Crystal Mountain in Washington State.

Daniel is a 12-year-old outdoor adventurer from Glenwood Springs, CO. The 2nd of four boys (and brother of Daniel Hilleke introduced above), Daniel has grown up playing in the mountains - skiing, climbing, mountain biking, and paddling with his family. This past summer he climbed and skied Mt. Sopris in Carbondale, CO for the 5th time. He also paddled the entire 100 miles of Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. He will be using his award to attend Keeners Kayak Camp in Canada.

About The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation: The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation was formed in 2011 to extend the impact of the life of Ryan Hawks who, at the age of 25, tragically died while competing on the freeride world ski tour. Before he died, Ryan composed his 14 Principles for Living. The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation has focused its mission around the concept that “core values matter.” Over the last three years, the Foundation has developed a five step program called Flyin Ryan Decisions.

The program was pioneered at South Burlington High School, Vermont, where over 1,200 students have deliberatively taken ownership of their lives by composing and communicating the core values which reside from within, and using their core values as a basis for increased self-respect and future decision making. The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation is currently introducing this same program to other schools around the state.
