Vt. Dems to honor Murphy, Berryere for service to community, state

The Vermont Democratic Party will present state party treasurer Deb Berryere of Guilford and Judy Murphy of Bennington with the Obuchowski Award on Sunday, June 25, in recognition of their years of service to the state and their respective southern Vermont communities.

Berryere, who retired in 2018 after a 45-year teaching career, was elected assistant treasurer for Windham County and named an alternate delegate to the state party in 2019. That same year, she was appointed to the Budget & Finance Subcommittee. In 2021, Berryere joined the Vermont Democratic Party as treasurer and has been growing the role ever since.

Murphy, a former journalist in her native Canada and the United States, is a member of the Bennington County Democratic Committee. Her involvement in the community and as a member of the Bennington County Democrats helped pave the way for countless southern Vermonters to win their elections. Murphy has worked as state coordinator of Vermont NOW and served as president of the board for the Bennington of the American Association of University Women, where she continues to remain involved.

“The Vermont Democratic Party wouldn’t be as great as it is today without Deb and Judy working tirelessly to make it that way,” said VDP chair David Glidden. “They are wonderful parts of our team, and we are eternally grateful for their service.”
