Rachel Carter has been named communications director, a new position at the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund (VSJF).
Carter is responsible for communication strategy and implementation for VSJF; its programs including the Vermont Farm to Plate Initiative, the Vermont Agriculture Development Program, and the Vermont Bioenergy Initiative; as well as the VSJF Flexible Capital Fund, L3C.
“Over the years VSJF has been at the forefront of working with entrepreneurs and farmers to expand Vermont’s green economy. But until now, we never had the expertise in house to fully share what we and our grantees have learned along the way,” says Ellen Kahler, executive director at VSJF. “We are thrilled that Rachel will be able to help raise VSJF’s profile so that more Vermonters can gain access to the resources, tools and market development approaches we have developed over the past 17 years.”
For more than six years, Carter has operated the public relations, social media, and grassroots marketing business, Rachel Carter PR, where she has worked with Vermont clients in agriculture, tourism, food, finance, education, small business, government municipalities, and non-profit sectors. Prior positions include the director of public relations at a Vermont marketing agency, a marketing director at an insurance agency, and a program manager with the Girl Scouts.
Carter is also the coauthor of VERMONT: An Explorer’s Guide, a freelance journalist, and social media influencer—operating under the RachelCarterPR and VermontVibes handles. She is recognized as the 2008 Vermont Young Careerist of the Year by Business & Professional Women and a 2010 Vermont Business Magazine Rising Star in its inaugural year.
Carter and her husband are relocating from East Charlotte to the Northeast Kingdom and are determining the rural community in which to lay down permanent homesteading roots.
The Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund (VSJF) is a non-profit organization created by the Vermont Legislature in 1995 to accelerate the development of Vermont’s green economy. Through funding, technical assistance, and networking collaborations, VSJF is strengthening the intersection between renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and eco-forest products. VSJF coordinates the Vermont Farm to Plate and Bioenergy Initiatives, the Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Development Program, and is the fund manager of the VSJF Flexible Capital Fund.
