TruexCullins has promoted Tom Karlhuber, AIA, and Cam Featherstonhaugh, FCSI, AIA, to Associate Principal. Through their leadership, Karlhuber and Featherstonhaugh have made significant contributions to the firm’s growth and continued success. Both are recognized for their commitment to design excellence, technical rigor, and strong client relationships, as well as their understanding of how architecture can support and strengthen communities.

Tom Karlhuber, AIA

Karlhuber joined TruexCullins in 2017 and brings more than 20 years of architectural experience to his new role. Prior to joining the firm, he worked with Safdie Architects and Ann Beha Architects (now Annum), where he developed a thoughtful approach to complex projects and a strong design sensibility.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. His work spans a range of project types and scales, reflecting a deep understanding of how architecture shapes both individual experience and community life.

At TruexCullins, Karlhuber has played a key role in higher education, mixed-use, and cultural projects. His recent work includes the expansion of the University of Vermont’s athletic facilities, including Varsity Athletics and the new Recreation and Wellness Center. He is currently contributing to large-scale hospitality and mixed-use developments, including the five-star Orchards Resort in southern Vermont and the Killington Six Peaks Village project.

Outside the firm, Karlhuber is active in civic life, serving on the Shelburne Planning Commission and the Shelburne Museum Barnstormers Steering Committee.

Cam Featherstonhaugh, FCSI, AIA

Featherstonhaugh has been with TruexCullins since 2013 and has been instrumental in the growth and leadership of the firm’s K–12 Education Studio. He brings deep expertise in net-zero architecture, campus facility planning, building science, and educational design.

He currently works with school districts across Vermont, helping guide long-term planning efforts while navigating a complex and evolving landscape of education funding and construction. His ability to align regulatory requirements with strategic goals has made him a trusted advisor to clients statewide.

In 2025, Featherstonhaugh was named a Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), recognizing his leadership, technical expertise, collaborative approach, and contributions to advancing industry standards. Through his involvement with CSI, he has contributed to national conversations on equity in school design, net-zero strategies, and the future of the profession.

A lifelong Vermonter, Featherstonhaugh holds a Master of Architecture from Norwich University. He serves on the Norwich University School of Architecture + Art Board of Fellows and the CSI Foundation Board of Trustees, among other community organizations.
