The Student Health Services department was named winner of one of the first Saint Michael's College Team Distinguished Staff Awards 2010 at ceremonies held on campus on Employee Service Day, June 2.
The award was presented to health services Director Mary Masson of Shelburne on behalf of the entire group. They were cited particularly for developing a rapid response plan to the threat of an H1N1 pandemic. The group was also praised for responding tirelessly, during that crisis, to anxious parents and for providing care for ill students. They were also recognized for staying in touch continuously with the Center for Disease Control, the campus and the community.
The award said the health services team continued to treat students infected with H1N1 although they themselves had not been immunized, because vaccines were not yet available. The award stated that “This remarkable group provides exceptional support throughout the year for all health needs of our students, and played a vital role in managing the H1N1 crisis this year.”
Core members of student health services called forward for the award were Elizabeth Gray, Mary Masson, Colleen McAuliffe, Margaret Briand, Patricia Sheridan, Dina Lehrer, and Susan Jacques.
