The appointment of Rich Amato as Interim Principal and Lashawn Whitmore-Sells as Interim Assistant Principal at Hunt Middle School for next year has been announced. These appointments were confirmed by the Board Tuesday night.
Amato has been Assistant Principal at Hunt Middle for over a decade. His knowledge of the faculty and student needs, while in a restructuring phase to be compliant with No Child Left Behind, is anticipated to continue the forward movement of the school.
Amato noted he is "eager to begin the work of planning for next school year, with the foundation of the restructuring plan under our belt." Amato's knowledge of families and students will help the school continue to move forward.
Whitmore-Sells has worked in Burlington previously as a teacher, Director of Diversity and Equity and as principal of our 300+ student summer school. In the four years since she left us, she has worked in VA at Burgundy Farm Country Day School as the Director of Diversity and Multiculturalism as well as in the Prince William County Public Schools as a teacher.
Whitmore-Sells shared her excitement in returning to work in Burlington Schools. "I am looking forward to reconnecting with friends, colleagues and community members on my journey back to the great city of Burlington. I have missed the kids and the families in BSD! "
Amato and Whitmore-Sells will begin their duties this summer, officially on July 1, 2012. A search for a permanent principal will take place in the late fall/winter next school year.
