Wayne Symonds, who recently retired from the Vermont Agency of Transportation after nearly 30 years of service, has joined VHB as senior structural engineer at the company's South Burlington office.
“VHB and the rest of the Vermont engineering community hold Wayne in high regard, and for good reason,” said Aaron Guyette, VHB's transportation market lead. “As a superb problem solver, he investigates a project from every angle and determines the smartest way to deliver it. Wayne’s creative insights and emphasis on collaboration will make an immediate impact here at VHB, as those attributes guide all the work we do.”
Symonds most recently served as chief engineer of VTran's highway division, where he oversaw operations in traffic safety and management; asset management; design; construction; fleet management; and maintenance. During that time, he spearheaded Vermont's Accelerated Bridge Program, which won many accolades from state officials and residents and helped elevate VTrans to a national leader in bridge design and construction. The program delivered 14 cost-effective bridge replacement projects within 24 months.
