Rutland Economic Development Corporation (REDC) has announced Executive Director Lyle Jepson will be stepping down from his role leading the organization to assume a position at Vermont Technical College – and Tyler Richardson has been appointed interim executive director of REDC.
Jepson has served in dual roles as executive director of REDC and dean of entrepreneurial programs for Castleton University since December 2015. Starting in June, Jepson will take over as the director of the Career & Technical Teacher Education Program for Vermont Tech.
“It has been my pleasure and an honor to serve as Executive Director of REDC,” Jepson said. “When I started in this position the REDC board of directors was putting into action a redefined mission, vision, and approach to economic development. Their work has resulted in multiple exciting initiatives for the betterment of the community. I am excited for what the future will bring for the organization, because REDC has never been stronger.”
Jepson helped spearhead a redirection of the organization that sought to retain a focus on supporting our largest employers while broadening efforts to support, expand, and recruit smaller businesses and talent to the region. An emphasis on growing the population of the region to address workforce challenges became a defining emergent theme.
At a meeting today, the REDC board of directors appointed Assistant Director Tyler Richardson to serve as interim executive director. Richardson has been with the organization as assistant director since January 2016, and with Jepson has been a critical part of the revitalization of REDC.
“Tyler has been with REDC since we reorganized and broadened our mission and vision, so he’s locked into everything that has developed since then,” said John Russell III, president of the REDC board. “His willingness to step in quickly to ensure continuity of leadership and momentum will allow the board the time we need to thoughtfully consider our next steps. We are confident in his leadership and ability.”
“I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, the board of directors, and community leaders to continue our work in earnest,” Richardson said. “We’re working with an extensive list of exciting initiatives and engaged, innovative collaborators. And Lyle will continue to be one of those collaborators. I feel like we’re just getting started.”
Richardson will transition into his role as interim executive director in the coming weeks.
“We want to thank Lyle for his tremendous contribution to evolving this organization,” Russell said. “Because of his efforts, and the efforts of our dedicated directors, committee members, and staff, REDC’s structural and financial position has never been stronger. This is an opportunity to renew the positive energy that is moving the region forward, and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
