Institute for Sustainable Communities names two new board members

Shivani Ganguly
Derek Walker

Shivani Ganguly, chief financial officer and chief operating officer at New Sun Road, and Derek Walker, vice president for the U.S. region at the Environmental Defense Fund, have been appointed to the Institute for Sustainable Communities Board of Directors after an extensive interview and selection process. They will begin their official board duties in July.

Ganguly has worked in mission-driven and sustainability-focused tech, retail and consumer packaged goods organizations, both internally and as a consultant, since 2010. At New Sun Road, she leads finance, operations and human resources to support the company's mission to accelerate renewable energy deployment and access for remote communities. Shivani is a graduate of Stanford University and holds an MBA in sustainable management from Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco.

A 15-year employee at the Environmental Defense Fund, Walker oversees a portfolio of policy initiatives designed to achieve a just transition to a net-zero U.S. economy, combat climate change, build resilience and promote equity and environmental justice. He currently co-chairs the steering committee of the BlueGreen Alliance, which unites labor unions and environmental organizations, and is an adjunct professor of international climate change law at Vermont Law and Graduate School.
