Anthony Facos, former executive director of the Division of Enforcement and Safety at Vermont’s Department of Motor Vehicles, has joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont as law enforcement coordinator.
In this position, he will advise the U.S. attorney on law enforcement issues throughout Vermont; facilitate communication among federal, state and local law enforcement within the District of Vermont; serve as liaison and conduit for state and local law enforcement agencies to bring cases for possible federal prosecution, with an emphasis on reduction of violent crime; and promote community engagement regarding Department of Justice initiatives, law enforcement priorities and crime prevention activities.
Facos joins the office with more than 35 years of state and local law enforcement experience. Prior to working at the DMV, he spent 33 years with the Montpelier Police Department, including 13 years as chief of police.
“Tony brings extensive law enforcement knowledge and experience to this critical position,” said U.S. Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest. “He has deep roots in the Vermont law enforcement community and is an incredibly well-respected law enforcement officer in the state.”
Facos has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Norwich University. He has been an executive board member of the FBI Albany Division’s Joint Terrorism Task Force as well as co-chair of Vermont’s Law Enforcement Advisory Board.
