DeWolfe Morrow, rising senior at Burlington College took first place at The Creative Minds Filmmaker Institute in Cannes short film competition. The film also received Best Script, Best Editing and Best Actor.
"My inspiration for the film was to convey the notion that everyone is created equal, regardless of their status," says Morrow.
After months of anticipation, Morrow took flight to Cannes, France to compete with over 80 contestants in a short film contest. There were 17 teams in the competition who were given specific guidelines to the film requirements. The parameters were to create a film no longer than five minutes in a week's span, with no copyright infringements.
Morrow had a team of four, with Joseph Mulherin, Burlington College classmate as one of the members. With the help of his team, Morrow helped write the original five minute film titled, "One Day." (View the film at https://vimeo.com/67224854)
The film features two men and their significant differences in financial status; one man being homeless, while the other lives a wealthy lifestyle. The morale of the film was to convey the insignificance of status between two men.
"People are people; status has no determinant of who is better than another," says Morrow in response to the film he helped write, produce and fund.
The competition coincided with the Cannes International Film Festival, where Morrow was able to attend daily networking events, filmmaker workshops and Cinema Master Classes (hosted by industry icons like Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese & Sydney Pollack). Affording Morrow the opportunity to expand his knowledge of the film business and make key contacts in the film industry.
Burlington College helped Morrow fund the trip, along with giving him the opportunity to use skills he has learned in and out of the classroom.
