Aylward, Oakes honored by Vermont Association of Insurance Professionals

Maria Aylward, commercial lines underwriter at New England Excess Exchange in Barre, and Stephanie Jo Oakes, business analyst at Exavalu, headquartered in Newport Beach, California, were recently honored by the Vermont Association of Insurance Professionals, a professional association dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry.

Aylward, a 23-year veteran of the insurance industry, was named winner of the second annual Mari Schaarschmidt Service Award, which recognizes an association member who exemplifies a commitment to service within the insurance industry and through community-service initiatives. The recipient receives an honor plaque and $250 to donate to a local nonprofit of their choosing.

Oakes was presented with the 2023 Membership Award, which honors a member who demonstrates outstanding dedication and commitment to the association. The award covers the winner's annual VTAIP/IAIP membership dues for the upcoming renewal term.

Oakes, a VTAIP member for six years, has previously served as treasurer and vice president of the association's board of directors as well as chair of its audit and education committees. She was recently elected president of the board for the 2023-25 term, which begins July 1. Joining Oakes on the board's executive team will be Kim Morrell, president-elect: Evan Forward, vice president; Diane Boutin, secretary; and Audrey Macie, treasurer.
