Maryellen Apelquist, a communications professional with 20 years of experience, recently joined the development, marketing, and public relations team at Gifford Health Care. As Gifford’s communications specialist, Apelquist will manage media relations and create content to engage and inform the greater Gifford community about patient services and providers, community health outreach, and new programs and initiatives.
“I am pleased to be a part of the Gifford team and look forward to sharing with our central Vermont neighbors all that Gifford has to offer, from high-quality, personalized health care at all stages of life to service-driven events such as our upcoming Last Mile Ride in August,” said Apelquist, referring to Gifford’s annual fundraising event to provide comfort to end-of-life patients and their families.
Before joining the Gifford team, Apelquist worked for nearly five years as the director of communications for Vermont Law School in South Royalton. She previously managed communications programs in health care, architecture and engineering, and for a wide variety of clients. She spent the first half of her career as a journalist, working her way up from reporter to managing editor in newsrooms in Connecticut, Maryland, and New Hampshire. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications, with a focus on journalism, from Hood College in Maryland.
