The Vermont Arts Council, a state agency and independent nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts and creativity in Vermont, welcomed four new trustees and elected new officers at its annual board meeting in June.

New trustees are Emma Makdessi (pictured), director of camp programs at Outright Vermont; Alia Quart Khan, freelance strategic solutions specialist at Wolf & Associates; Kurt Shaffert, cartooning chaplain and type designer at Pearl Press; and Stephanie Zak Jerome, president of Visual Learning Systems and a former Vermont state representative.

Newly elected officers include Robin Perlah, interim dean for the core division, creative studio and School of Social Innovation at Champlain College, vice chair, and Sabrina Brown, founder and owner of Woodstock Productions, who moves from vice chair to secretary.

Board chair Mark Foley, owner of Foley Services and MKF Properties, and treasurer Greg Sargent, managing director at Kittell Branagan & Sargent, were reelected to second terms.
