Epsilon Spires, Inc is pleased to announce the election of Jessamyn Fiore of Chesterfield, NH to the Board of Directors. Fiore will also assume the office of President.
She is a contemporary art curator and writer as well as the Co-Director of the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark. Among other roles, she has served as Curatorial Advisor for Rawson Projects in New York City (2014 - 2015, 2017-2018) and the curator of the Jean-Paul Najar Foundation in Dubai, UAE, from 2015-2017. She was a co-founder of Nasty Women Exhibition at the Knockdown Center, Queens, NY (January 2017).
In joining the board, Fiore states, “It is thrilling to be able to work with Epsilon Spires at this defining moment. As a new non-profit arts organization, Epsilon Spires is uniquely situated to directly respond to the challenges of audience engagement in these times.”
Capitalizing on the strength of its innovative creative spirit, Epsilon Spires launched the Backlot Cinema series this summer that brings an audience together outdoors for a safe and socially distanced evening of film. Says Fiore, “On the opening night I greeted those arriving and it was wonderful to share in their enthusiasm for being able to safely come together again in downtown Brattleboro to enjoy art. This is a creative, engaged community and Epsilon Spires strives to be a primary center for art, science, and civil discourse within it.” Fiore’s plan is to carry the energy of the Backlot Cinema series into Epsilon Spire’s fall program and beyond. She adds, “Bold programmatic strategies will further enhance our engagement with both artists and audience to inspire powerful shared experiences. I will work to support Creative Director Jamie Mohr in the continued realization of her creative vision for the space. I will also work to build the Epsilon Spires community by facilitating the launch of a new Membership Program that will offer both benefits and opportunities to those interested in a deeper engagement with our program.”
“I fully believe that great art can be a catalyst for great change. Independent community art spaces are generative creative engines that, with our support and appreciation, produce art and ideas that enhance not only the community but the wider world. It is my privilege to help Epsilon Spires continue to be such a generative place – to expand its community of artists and audience and further its unique mission.”
At the Backlot Cinema this Friday, July 24th, Jessamyn Fiore will introduce the 1977 classic documentary Pumping Iron that was made by her late father, Robert Fiore. Pumping Iron shines a light on the niche world of competitive body building, following Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Farrigno as they compete for the 1975 Mr. Olympia title. The documentary was a success at its time launching the career of Schwarzenegger and is still taught in film schools today as a great of its genre. Tickets available at www.epsilonspires.org
