Dr. Joachim Mueller joins Central Vermont Cardiology

Dr. Joachim G. Mueller recently joined Mark Heitzman, MD, FACC, Michael G. Hayes, MD, FACC, and Gregory J. MacDonald, MD, FACC at Central Vermont Cardiology. Dr. Mueller was born and raised in Germany where he received his MD at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg, Germany. He did his Residency/Fellowship in Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the Department of Medicine/Cardiology, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, Münster, Germany and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Gazes Cardiac Research Institute, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), in Charleston, South Carolina.

After moving to the US with his family, Dr. Mueller completed a second residency in Internal Medicine at Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC) and the University of Vermont. This June, he completed a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at FAHC. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty board certification in Cardiovascular Disease.

“Inviting Dr. Mueller to join Central Vermont Cardiology underscores our commitment to the community,” stated Judy Tarr, President and CEO. “Once a week he will perform outpatient electrophysiology studies including catheter ablation for CVMC patients at Fletcher Allen Health Care where they have the equipment and the technical and nursing staff necessary to do these studies.”

“Electrophysiology is about treating complex heart rhythm disturbances. Cardiac ablation interrupts faulty electrical connections and circuits so that the heart does not go back into fast and irregular rhythms,” explains Dr. Mueller.

“I will also be implanting pacemakers and implantable cardioverter/defibrillators (ICDs) at Central Vermont Medical Center,” he noted.

Dr. Mueller met his wife Dr. Lisa Burns, a pediatrician, while participating in an exchange program at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. They live in South Burlington with their two children. “We really like Vermont. It is similar to Southern Germany in many aspects. We enjoy nature, hiking, biking, skiing and all the other outdoor activities here,” he concluded.

Central Vermont Cardiology physicians also perform the following types of cardiology tests: Electrocardiogram (EKG), Holter Monitoring, Stress Testing, Echocardiogram, Peripheral Vascular Exam, Electroencephalogram and Nuclear Medicine (Molecular Imaging).
