Dartmouth-Hitchcock names Terry Carroll as chief innovation officer

Dartmouth-Hitchcock has appointed Terry Carroll as its new Chief Innovation Officer.

As Chief Innovation Officer, Carroll will be responsible for all of the information management processes associated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s integrated health care delivery system, defining technological support for the strategic direction of Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Carroll’s portfolio will include strategic planning, the support of innovation, new business development and management, information design, technology evaluation and acquisition, information integrity and security, medical informatics, clinical use of data, and telecommunications.

“I’m delighted to have Terry join us in this important position,” said Dartmouth-Hitchcock CEO and President Dr. James N. Weinstein. “His broad experience in medical informatics, especially in the areas of electronic medical records and how technology relates to and supports Accountable Care Organizations like ours, will be a key to ensuring that we have the data and information to deliver the highest-quality outcomes for our patients.”

Most recently, Carroll was Senior Vice President, Transformation and Chief Information Officer at Fairview Health Services in Princeton, MN. Prior to joining Fairview in 2008, he worked for Maverick Healthcare Consulting. He also was the Chief Operating Officer of Premier Sourcing Partners; Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Detroit Medical Center; and Vice President of Information Services and Chief Information Officer at Baystate Health Systems in Springfield, Massachusetts. Earlier in his career, Carroll served in multiple leadership roles with Magee-Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

A native of New England, Terry earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont as well as master’s and doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

In making the announcement, Weinstein also praised the work of Interim Vice President for Information Systems Martin Purcell and Medical Director for Information Systems Dr. Peter Solberg. “We’ve come a long way with our information technology infrastructure, especially since the implementation of our new eD-H electronic medical record in 2011. Marty’s and Peter’s steady hands have helped us move toward creating a sustainable health system. I’m very pleased that they’ll continue to be leaders on our team.”

Carroll will begin his duties at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in September.
