As we begin the new year the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust is pleased to share Jonathan G. Steiner has taken the reins as president and CEO. Jon Steiner replaces Laura Soares, who retired at the end of 2020 after 10 years in the role. We thank Laura for her strong leadership and wish her the best in retirement.
Mr. Steiner has over 30 years of risk pool experience serving local governments and schools. For 20 years he worked for the New Hampshire local risk pool including property, casualty, and health. Most recently he served as CEO of the Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Trust, which also included schools as well as the Kentucky Local Government Health Trust.
Mr. Steiner has served as a school board member, vice president of the NH School Boards Association, and a Town Moderator. He has been active on various national risk management boards. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of NH and he has a master’s degrees from UNH and a master’s degree from Dartmouth. His wife, Robin, is Assistant Superintendent of SAU 70, Norwich/Hanover and they have one daughter, Isabelle, who is a junior at SMU in Dallas.
