The University of Vermont has announced that Dr. Langdon Lawrence, assistant professor in the Larner College of Medicine, and Justin Garwood, professor in the College of Education and Social Services, were selected as 2024 recipients of the Prelock Online Teaching Award.
Lawrence was honored in the asynchronous category for his course Climate Change Emergencies, which was praised for being a model of continuous improvement. The course capitalized on online students' geographic diversity, embracing Universal design principles throughout, and engaging students in a critical analysis of AI technology.
Garwood was honored the synchronous category for his course Behavior Management. Garwood's dedication to humanizing the online environment was highlighted in his nominations. He was praised for sharing his journey about missteps that he made as a student and encouraging his learners to do the same.
