Shacksbury Cider co-founders accept Good Food Award

Shacksbury Cider nabbed a prestigious 2016 Good Food Award this month, marking the second year in a row the Shoreham-based cider makers rank among the best food crafters in the country. The cidery’s Lost & Found cider, made from foraged apples harvested in Vermont, is a 2016 winner. Shacksbury’s Farmhouse blend also ranked among the finalists.

“This is a really special award,” said Shacksbury co-founder David Dolginow. “We’re proud to be part of a community of producers making really tasty, delicious and high-quality food, and who are committed to do this in a socially and environmentally responsible way.”

The Good Food Awards seek to recognize exceptional craft food that is made by companies with a dedication to the environment, a connection to local communities, and a sense of cultural traditions. Winners were selected from 1,937 entries through a blind tasting. High scoring entries then underwent a rigorous vetting process to verify each producer meets sustainability and social responsibility criteria.

“That’s really, truly at the core of why we do this,” said Dolginow. “We want to make something delicious, and that people can enjoy, and do it in a way that hopefully makes the world a better place than we found it.”

Shacksbury co-founders Dolginow and Colin Davis accepted the award at a Jan. 15 gathering in San Francisco of more than 800 winners and food luminaries, including Alice Waters, Nell Newman and Slow Food Founder Carlo Petrini.
