Rosemary Dougherty, a board-certified family nurse practitioner with more than 18 years experience, has joined the medical nursing staff at Mt Ascutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC). Most recently, Rosemary worked in a health center in Maine; she has also served as director and primary nurse practitioner for a New Hampshire university health service.
“We are pleased to welcome Rosemary to Mt Ascutney Hospital,” said Joseph Perras, CEO of the Hospital. “Her background of serving the needs of diverse patient populations, as well as her managerial skills, will be a tremendous asset to MAHHC and to our mission.”
Dougherty says she is looking forward to working with the MAHHC and its patients. She notes, “My family has had a residence in the Upper Valley for years and I feel that I’m actually coming home.”
Her approach, she says, is one of teamwork and open communication. “I believe that optimal health care thrives when patients and health care providers communicate openly with each other and work together as a team." Dougherty adds that she has a keen interest in working with special needs adolescents and adults, and with patients who may be struggling with life circumstances.
Dougherty earned a BA in public management from the University of Maine, and a BS in nursing from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. She has a Family Nurse Practitioner master’s degree from Rivier University, where she also recently served as adjunct faculty for the University’s nurse practitioner program. She is currently a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and has been inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing.
When she is not working, Dougherty enjoys volunteering with local organizations such as Easter Seals of NH and VT. She is a longtime volunteer with the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
