Lund, a Burlington-based agency that provides adoption, treatment, and support services to families across Vermont, recently welcomed three new members to its board of trustees. They are Tara Affolter of Middlebury, VT; Laura Taylor of Burlington, VT; and Julio Thompson of East Montpelier, VT.
“Our board members offer time, talent and encouragement that have been so meaningful to us during this challenging time,” President and Chief Executive Officer Tricia Coates said. “We welcome Tara, Julio and Laura to the Lund family and look forward to their participation in our important mission and work.”
Affolter, who holds a PhD in education policy studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is associate professor of education studies at Middlebury College. She has over 15 years’ experience teaching high school English and theater while working for racial and social justice within public schools. Affolter has research and teaching experience in antiracist teaching, social justice education, culturally relevant pedagogy, disability studies and critical race theory.
Taylor, an adviser to Private Health Management, has significant executive experience in change management, risk analysis and strategic planning. Previously, she was global head of client delivery and managing director of Aon Inpoint.
Thompson is an assistant attorney general for the State of Vermont and director of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Unit, which enforces Vermont’s laws regarding employment discrimination, fair-employment practices and hate crimes. He has also worked on police reform, served as an expert for the U.S. Department of Justice on suicide, and teaches about hate crimes at the Vermont Police Academy.
“We welcome these three talented professionals to Lund’s board,” Lund board chair Christine Oliver said. “Their deep experience in business, government, academia and community service will broaden our perspectives and support our critical work on behalf of Vermont families.”
