Eric Hernandez Joins CEMS

The UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) welcomes Eric Hernandez as an Assistant Professor in the civil engineering program. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Hernandez received his PhD in civil engineering as a Fulbright scholar in 2007 from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He will teach CE173 Concrete Design during the 2011 Spring semester.

His research focuses on Smart Infrastructure Systems that can monitor themselves and their environment and respond to changes in operating conditions. His areas of expertise are in structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, performance-based design of complex structural systems, reliability analysis, structural health monitoring, optimal state and parameter estimation, applied system identification and digital signal processing.

“Hernandez’s scholarship areas are highly relevant nationally and globally,” says Bernard “Chip” Cole. “His areas of expertise will complement ongoing research activities at UVM.”

“I am pleased to join the many talented faculty at UVM and look forward to continue and expand my research on the development of advanced algorithms to help engineers detect, monitor and assess adverse changes in the structural safety and reliability of critical and complex infrastructure systems” says Hernandez.
