Cynthia K Hoehl Scholarships awarded to members of Boys & Girls Club of Burlington

The Boys and Girls Club of Burlington is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of the Cynthia K Hoehl Scholarship: Faizo Hassan and Bienfait Badibanga. Faizo is attending Community College of Vermont, and Bienfait is attending Norwich University.

Cynthia Hoehl was a committed believer in the transformative power of education to help a young person create a healthy, vibrant life.

Faizo and Bienfait are graduates of the Club’s Early Promise program, an academic improvement program that helps members improve their performance in school with the ultimate goal of a wider range of post-secondary options and, eventually, better economic opportunities.

“As I think about my life, I know I wouldn’t have made it to where I am today without the Club. They encouraged, supported, and gave me hope about my future. I’m very thankful for the support, and for this great scholarship. The Cynthia K Hoehl Scholarship allows me to go to college, which is something that I hadn’t thought was possible. Thank you for making my dreams a reality!”, said Faizo Hassan.

“Cynthia Hoehl believed in the power of education to transform lives for the better, and she believed that everyone deserved a good education and the chance to go to college. Cynthia tutored kids at school, parents and grandparents at their houses, and inmates in prison. She was an amazing woman and would be so proud of how hard these Club members worked in school”, said Laura Latka of the Hoehl Family Foundation.

The Boys and Girls Club of Burlington’s mission is to empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to discover their full potential as caring, engaged, responsible community members.
