Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) President and CEO Tom Dunn announced today the election of Ms. Karin Stamy to serve as VELCO’s Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Today’s unanimous vote by the Company’s Board of Directors culminates a four-month, nationwide search conducted by a respected placement firm.
“Karin is a great addition to our executive team. She brings a dynamism and fresh viewpoint to our work at a time of transformational change in our industry,” said CEO Tom Dunn. He added: “Her leadership, verve and expertise will be invaluable as VELCO works to create a sustainable Vermont through our people, relationships, assets and unique business structure.”
VELCO Board Chairman Larry Reilly said, “The VELCO executive team has done exemplary work to keep Company employees safe, the transmission grid reliable and costs down. Karin is an excellent addition whose unique voice will no doubt help to strengthen VELCO’s performance. She’s the right hire at the right time.”
Reacting to her election, Ms. Stamy said: “I am excited and gratified to begin this new role at such an important time. I have much to learn about the electric industry, and believe my experience in another linear infrastructure business will afford our team a complementary perspective. Prior to her arrival at VELCO, Karin worked as the Senior Deputy General Counsel at Norfolk Southern Corporation, a railroad company, based in Atlanta, Georgia, where she acted as the lead attorney in operations, safety and security matters. She brings extensive experience in a regulated industry, environmental law, and has an impressive background driving corporate culture for safety and women’s leadership.
Karin earned her law degree from State University of New York College at Buffalo and her undergraduate degree from Cornell University. Karin and her two daughters are relocating from Atlanta, Georgia to Vermont.
