Emily Wiggett named Norwich University’s Director of Bands

Emily Wiggett

Norwich University has appointed Emily Wiggett as our next Director of Bands, effective July 2026. Emily is the music director at Danville School (VT), recognized as Teacher of the Year (2025), and a sergeant in Vermont’s Own 40th Army Band (VTNG).

Upon learning the directorship was hers, Emily stated, “I am deeply honored to serve as Director of Bands at Norwich University. This opportunity represents a profound alignment of my passion for music, education, and service within an institution rich in tradition and purpose. I look forward to mentoring the distinguished musicians of the nation's oldest collegiate regimental band!”

Emily’s selection follows a regional search and intensive on-campus interview process that included professional staff, faculty, and students. The feedback was consistent and enthusiastic, reflecting strong confidence in her leadership, musicianship, and alignment with Norwich’s mission and values.

Emily will be the second female Director of Bands in Norwich University’s 206-year history assuming professional staff leadership of our Regimental Band, the nation’s oldest collegiate band. In addition, she will oversee the Concert Band, Grenadiers Jazz Band, Commandant's Own Choral Cavaliers, and other musical ensembles. This appointment honors our traditions while confidently positioning the band for continued excellence and growth.

As a sergeant, conductor, woodwind player, keyboardist, and vocalist in Vermont’s Own, Emily brings a deep understanding of military music, singing, marching band discipline, and public performances, which are integral to exposure and recruiting. Her professional background reflects the same values of service, teamwork, character, and leadership that Norwich instills in our cadets.

Brigadier General William McCollough ’91, VSM, Commandant and Vice President for Student Affairs, expressed, “Emily brings a wealth of talent and a clear vision for strengthening musicianship, expanding participation, and elevating the visibility and impact of Norwich’s Regimental Band and ensembles, while preserving the proud traditions that define them.”
