Vermont E9-1-1 Board Appoints Tucker to be Executive Director

The Vermont E9-1-1 Board, which oversees the state’s emergency communications system, has announced the selection of David Tucker to serve as Executive Director starting on January 7th. Tucker is currently the Commissioner of the Department of Information and Innovation. He began at DII as Deputy Commissioner in 2005.

Board Chair Roger Marcoux, who is also Lamoille County Sheriff, said, “David Tucker is extremely well qualified for this position. He understands technology and he is a seasoned manager within state government. As Commissioner at DII, Dave helped us with a major technology contracting process, so he understands how E9-1-1 is organized and appreciates how critical our mission is.”

Vermont has one of the most advanced 9-1-1 systems in the nation. The system covers the entire state and is comprised of eight call centers. The backbone technology merges the caller’s voice with location data, and allows the call-taker to instantly connect the caller to the appropriate emergency responder. The Vermont 911 system receives 200,000 emergency calls each year from citizens and visitors in Vermont.

Prior to DII, Tucker spent 20 years at the Department of Labor, in various positions, including Unemployment Insurance Director. He is a graduate of Johnson State College and holds a Master of Public Administration from UVM. In the spring of 2011, Tucker will receive a Master of Science, Managing Innovation and Information Technology from Champlain College. He lives with his wife Julie in Northfield.
