Marnie Owen Named 2010 Outstanding UVM CEMS Staff Member

Marnie Owen was presented the 2010 CEMS Outstanding Staff Member Award during a 2010 UVM CEMS Holiday Celebration held Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Fleming Museum by Bernard “Chip” Cole, Interim Dean of the College, for her achievements in her role as Student Services Advisor for the College.
“Marnie exemplifies our CEMS mission,” says Bernard ‘Chip” Cole, Interim Dean of the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. “Her field of expertise is vital to both teaching and student services within CEMS.”
Marnie is responsible for International higher education, transfer credit, FERPA (student privacy rights), CATS reports (degree audits), as well as student affairs. In addition to her job responsibilities, she recently travelled to China for the UVM U.S. Sinways Program and actively organized a YMCA's pre-school visit to CEMS that featured Darren Hitt's son for "What does your Daddy do?" day.
In addition to being a passionate advocate for students, Marnie works yearly with her husband on community projects for which they received recognition in 2010 by The Burlington Free Press for work on the O’Brien Center in Winooski.
Since 2006 CEMS faculty and staff have submitted nominations for a staff colleague for their contributions to UVM CEMS. Criteria for the award include having a positive attitude, exceeding job expectations, engaging in tasks beyond one's job description, making special contributions to the College, and participating in public service.
The winner was chosen by the Director of the School of Engineering, Chair of the Department of Computer Sciences, Chair of the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Dean. Owen received a $100 gift certificate to a restaurant of her choice and a $250 shopping certificate to the store of her choice. “It is truly an honor to be recognized by colleagues in this way,” says Marnie Owen.
