Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation makes Adventure Scholar awards

Flyin Ryan is proud to announce the addition of three new Adventure Scholarship recipients to their Adventure Scholar family! Erick Crockenberg and Holden Bradford’s awards were generously sponsored by Outdoor Gear Exchange.

Erick Crockenberg is a Vermont native who attended CVU High School and the University of Vermont. Throughout college he and a colleague led research on sustainable heat and carbon sequestration systems for local farms. As a Senior he co-founded New Moran, Inc., a non-profit organization that won a year-long business competition working with the City of Burlington on the environmental remediation and cultural re-use of a derelict former coal plant and waterfront campus. This winter he will be working with 40 Tribes, a backcountry ski guiding community development initiative in the Tien Shan Mountains of Northeastern Kyrgyzstan. He will be using his award to help fund that volunteer work.

Holden Bradford is a 17-year-old competitive Freeride skier from Crested Butte, Colorado where he is part of the Crested Butte Mountain Sports team. He has been skiing since he was 18 months old and competing since he was 6 years old. At the age of 11 he began competing in IFSA sanctioned Freeride competitions throughout North America. He is a Flyin Ryan Spirit Award recipient, an award given out at select IFSA competitions to competitors who embody the sportsmanship and spirit of Ryan Hawks. Holden is using his award to fund his training and trip to the 2020 Freeride Junior World Championships in Kappl, Austria.

Adam Peterson is a 15-year-old Alpine-turned-Freestyle skier who got his start in skiing when he was only three years old. He now trains between 20-30 hours per week and considers skiing his #1 passion. He is using his award to attend his freestyle team’s “Camp Keystone”.

The Flyin Ryan Adventure Scholarship Program exists to provide monetary awards to assist adventurers of all kinds, from all around the world, in pursuing their passions. About the Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation: The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation was formed in 2011 to extend the impact of the life of Ryan Hawks who, at the age of 25, tragically died while competing on the freeride world ski tour. Before he died, Ryan composed his 14 Principles for Living. The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation has focused its mission around the concept that “core values matter.” Over the last three years, the Foundation has developed a five step program called Flyin Ryan Decisions. The program was pioneered at South Burlington High School, Vermont, where over 1,200 students have deliberatively taken ownership of their lives by composing and communicating the core values which reside from within and using their core values as a basis for increased self-respect and future decision making. The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation is currently introducing this same program to other schools around the state.
