Four new members will be inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame during ceremonies Sept 24 at Timberlane Lodge at Bolton Valley Resort. The event, hosted by the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum in Stowe, will also honor the recipients of the Paul Robbins Journalism Award and Bill McCollom Community Award.
The Class of 2022 Hall of Fame inductees are:
- Ralph DesLauriers, founder of Bolton Valley Resort, one of the few independently run ski areas in Vermont.
- Jim Holland, two-time Olympic ski jumper, six-time national champion and co-founder of the online retail giant Backcountry. (Holland was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame at February's 100th anniversary Harris Hill Ski Jump, but will be honored again with the rest of the Class of 2022 in September.)
- Rip McManus, the late Olympic skier, television commentator and actor (he was a cast member and ski race double for Robert Redford in the 1969 American sports film drama "Downhill Racer") who died in a traffic accident in 1982.
- Betsy Pratt, former owner of Mad River Glen who later transferred ownership of the resort to the Mad River Glen Cooperative, the first and only cooperatively owned ski area in the country.
Also during the ceremony, the Paul Robbins Journalism Award will be presented to Greg Morrill of Stowe, author of the 2014 book "Retro-Ski: A Nostalgic Look Back at Skiing," and his popular "Retro-Ski" column in the weekly Stowe Reporter, and the Bill McCollom Community Award will be given to the Catamount Trail Association, which maintains 300-plus miles of Catamount's backcountry ski trails while working to permanently protect the entire trail and provide access to mountain lands that support backcountry recreation.
