The Vermont School Leadership Project, co-directed by Val Gardner and Peter Burrows, is a unique program that offers intensive professional development for superintendents, principals, curriculum and special education directors, as well as other education professionals who have proven leadership abilities. The Class of 2022 embarked on their leadership journey in mid-July and will continue to meet at Lake Morey Resort over the next sixteen months for a total of seven overnight sessions with eighteen seminar days.

Through theoretical discussions, experiential activities and personal reflection, associates will consider and apply concepts related to leadership, education systems, organizational change and community. To apply and integrate their learnings within their individual school systems in real-time, associates will work on a Capstone project throughout the program. As Vermont emerges from the challenges brought by COVID, the Class of 2022 is uniquely situated to examine “whole systems” thinking and change management within Vermont’s public schools, a cornerstone and distinguishing factor of the Vermont School Leadership Project. The Class of 2021 is the 15th class since the Vermont School Leadership Project was founded in 1995. Upon completion of the program in November 2022, members of the Class of 2022 will join 300 graduates who are making a difference in Vermont’s schools.
