Rutland Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation Services recognized for outcomes excellence for patients

Rehabilitations Services at Rutland Regional Medical Center was recently recognized for exceeding the national average for patient outcomes in the area of orthopaedics. The recognition comes from Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes (FOTO®), a web-based patient assessment system that has been measuring and reporting functional outcomes for the rehab industry for 20 years and is considered the standard in measuring functional outcomes in rehabilitation.

The FOTO Outcomes Excellence Award honors providers that exceed national and international averages for functional change in FOTO’s database for four consecutive quarters. Providers must consistently achieve superior scores for improved patient outcomes, treatment efficiency and patient satisfaction. In addition to the Excellence Award, Rutland Regional’s Rehabilitation Services scored a 97% for patient satisfaction, the top 7% internationally for improvement per visit for hips and the top 19% internationally for improvement per case for knee and top 19% per visit for shoulder.

“There are many ways to measure how we are doing but this one appealed to us because the results are based on our patients’ feedback,” said Kelly Parker, Rehabilitation Services Operation Manager. “To have outcome and patient satisfaction improvements for four quarters in a row is not only rewarding, but it affirms the terrific work our staff does in helping patients improve.”

“We all think we’re really good at what we do, but without data to back that up, it is meaningless,” said Emma Wilcox, physical therapist and champion for the adoption of the outcomes based program. “This assessment tool gives us real data that shows us we are continually within the top rankings of a variety of therapy outcomes nationally.”

Both Parker and Wilcox admit that the most satisfying result is the 97% patient satisfaction score.

“Of course we strive for 100%, but we have to admit that 97% is pretty terrific,” said Parker.
