Col Matthew T Birmingham, director of the Vermont State Police, is pleased to announce Detective Sgt David White, with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations – Troop B East, has been promoted to lieutenant/station commander at the Middlesex Field Station.
Lieutenant White has served the people of Vermont for more than 15 years, graduating from the Vermont Police Academy in 2003. He began his career as a trooper at the Bradford Barracks in June 2003. He was promoted to sergeant/patrol commander at the Bradford Barracks in 2013 before transferring to the Royalton Barracks in 2017, where he became a detective sergeant the following year. Along with these duties, Lieutenant White has served on the Tactical Services Unit for more than six years. He previously served as a canine handler for about five years and on the Search and Rescue Team for a year. The promotion to lieutenant was effective June 10, 2018.
A Vermont State Police field station commander is responsible for overseeing delivery of law enforcement services to the communities served by that station. The field station commander is the local representative of the Vermont State Police to the community it serves, and works with local officials and residents to address public safety and law enforcement concerns in their service area.
The Middlesex station provides police coverage throughout Washington County and portions of Orange County. Primary law enforcement services are provided for the Washington County towns of Cabot, Calais, Duxbury, East Montpelier, Fayston, Marshfield, Middlesex, Moretown, Plainfield, Roxbury, Waitsfield, Warren, Waterbury, Woodbury and Worcester, along with support and assistance for a half-dozen municipal police departments in the county. In Orange County, the station provides service to Orange, Washington and Williamstown. Troopers based in Middlesex also patrol 30 miles of Interstate 89.
