Jenna's Promise co-founder honored as a 2024 CNN Hero

Dawn Tatro

Dawn Tatro, co-founder of Jenna's Promise, has been honored as a CNN Hero, a recognition that underscores her visionary leadership in the fight against substance use disorder.

Tantro and her husband, Greg, founded Jenna's Promise after their daughter Jenna lost her life to a fentanyl overdose in 2019 at the age of 26. Since founding the nonprofit, Tatro and her family have built an innovative program that gives women transitioning out of rehab the time and space to heal and build good habits before returning home.

“(After Jenna’s passing) I felt like I wanted to die, I didn’t want to get out of bed,” Tatro told CNN. “But it forced me to get up and help others, so other families didn’t have to struggle with what we were suffering with.”

Since 2007, CNN Heroes has celebrated “everyday people” who make extraordinary contributions to humanitarian aid and make a difference in their communities.
