Geriatric Psychiatrist Daniel R. Bateman, MD was recently welcomed to Central Vermont Medical Center’s Family Psychiatry Associates and as a member of the Inpatient Psychiatry Team.
Dr. Bateman graduated Magna cum laude from Drake University, Chicago. There he earned his BS with a major in Environmental Science and minors in Chemistry and Biology. He received his MD graduating Magna cum Laude from Strich School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Bateman did an Internal Medicine internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship, chief residency and adult psychiatric residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Prior to joining CVMC Dr. Bateman was medical director for Glencliff Home for the Elderly, a state run nursing home in New Hampshire for older adults with serious mental illness.
“ We are pleased that a geriatric psychiatrist has joined CVMC,” stated Judy Tartaglia, CVMC’s president and CEO. “Dr. Bateman has a rich background in geriatrics that will help meet the needs of the aging population in central Vermont.”
“My interests include treatment of memory disorders, late onset depression and mental illness in older adults as well as offering care and support to family and caregivers,” said Dr. Bateman.
He will be seeing patients for outpatient diagnosis and management consultation on Thursdays at CVMC’s Barre Internal Medicine and at CVMC’s Central Vermont Primary Care on Wednesdays.
Dr. Bateman is also a member of the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit staff at CVMC and an adjunct professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
He is married to Pantila Vanichakarn and they live in Montpelier and Thailand. His wife Dr. Vanichakarn is a practicing cardiologist in Thailand. Dr. Bateman enjoys exercising, hiking, sailing, traveling overseas and the outdoors.
