The Vermont Chapter of the Northern New England Region of the American Red Cross welcomes Alex Daley of Gold Bullion International and Patty Shirk of GLOBALFOUNDRIES to its board of directors.
“We’re delighted that these accomplished leaders are bringing their expertise, experience and excitement to the Red Cross. Alex and Patty will be wonderful advocates and ambassadors for our mission,” said Kevin Mazuzan, executive director of the Vermont Chapter of the Red Cross.
As senior vice president of Gold Bullion International, Daley is responsible for managing the firm’s retail division and marketing operations. He brings broad experience in technology, including as an e-commerce entrepreneur, a consultant to financial advisory and alternative investments clients and in bringing research and novel products to market for Microsoft.
“The Red Cross is one of the nation’s premier humanitarian organizations, serving families and communities in the face of emergencies every day,” said Daley, who is the board’s vice-chair. “I’m proud to help bring this lifesaving work to the people of Vermont and beyond.”
Shirk is chief of staff to the Vermont senior location executive at GLOBALFOUNDRIES. She brings a large portfolio of multifaceted business experiences gained over her 25 years of engineering, project management and leadership roles in the high-tech industry.
“I'm thrilled to be a part of the Red Cross' volunteer-powered mission and its vision to turn compassion into action,” Shirk said. “I'm excited to have the opportunity to help them do that for communities throughout the Green Mountain State.”
Shirk and Daley join the other member of the board: Jeanne Albertson of Northfield Savings Bank, David DeLuca of Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, Eric Gagnon of the University of Vermont, business advisor Michael Lash, Kate McInnis of Marathon Health and Bryan Mjaanes of Vermont Mutual Insurance Group.
With its more than 1,500 volunteers, the Red Cross in Northern New England in the past fiscal year:
- helped more than 1,700 people affected by 502 home fires and other local disasters;
- provided 3,157 services to service members, veterans and their families;
- taught more than 49,000 people lifesaving skills such as CPR, first aid and AED;
- installed 6,499 free smoke alarms and made 2,318 homes safer;
- taught emergency preparedness to 3,190 students; and
- collected 139,700 units of blood.
The American Red Cross of Northern New England serves residents of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont – an area with a population of more than 3.2 million, 40 counties and 49,083 square miles.
