The Burlington School District announces the immediate appointment of Dr. Linda Walsleben as the English Language Learner (ELL) Director. This two-year interim appointment will allow the District to progress quickly with its strategic plan for ELL services, as presented to the School Board earlier this spring. Walsleben has most recently worked for the Burlington Schools as the ELL Coordinator (which is being replaced by this new position). The Director position will allow her to support ELL teachers and the program at a policy-based level, assisting with District supervision and evaluation processes.
Walsleben notes, " I am pleased to accept the Director position. I look forward to working with teachers and parents as we continue to develop services to better meet ELL students' needs."
Superintendent Jeanné Collins notes that this interim appointment allows the work that needs to be undertaken now to get underway and also honors the District's commitment to an affirmative recruitment process. "I feel Linda is the right person for this position at this time," Collins stated. "She has the experience and knowledge of our populations, programs and needs and will be able to quickly implement the strategic plan to improve services for our students. I look forward to supporting Linda and the ELL teachers in bringing our ELL program to the next level of excellence."
