Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak has appointed Ingrid Jonas as the city's first senior adviser on community safety.
Jonas, the first woman to reach the ranks of captain and major at the Vermont State Police, had a distinguished 26-year career with the force. She held several leadership roles, including director of internal affairs, director of fair and impartial policing and community affairs, and commander of the Support Services Division.
"Ingrid's perspective as a 20-plus-year veteran of the Vermont State Police, as an advocate for victims and survivors, and as a proponent of restorative justice will be invaluable as the city creates an efficient, effective and responsive community safety system," Mulvaney-Stanak said.
Since retiring in 2021, Jonas has worked as a licensed investigator and consultant. She recently collaborated with Burlington’s Community Justice Center to develop and implement restorative justice training for police and prosecutors.
