Brattleboro Savings & Loan announces promotions

Brattleboro Savings & Loan is pleased to announce the promotion of Donna Rathbun to Vice President and Compliance Officer, BSA/AML Officer and Sherie Lewis to Assistant Vice President and Operations Manager.

Donna has been an integral part of the BS&L team for 27 years—originally managing the bank’s Career Center Program at Brattleboro Union High School. In 1994 Donna became the manager of the bank’s main office, a role she effectively carried out until in 2018 she took on the role of Compliance Officer, BSA/AML Officer. In addition to ensuring the bank operates in compliance with all federal and state consumer banking laws and regulations, Donna is also responsible for the bank’s efforts to combat money laundering under the Bank Secrecy Act. In 2020, Donna completed the rigorous training to become a CRCM—Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager.

“The CRCM certification is the most prestigious professional achievement a compliance officer can attain. Donna has done an outstanding job in guiding BS&L through the many complexities and risks associated with regulatory compliance” said Dan Yates, President and CEO of Brattleboro Savings. “Ensuring that we are in compliance with the many rules and regulations under which we operate is not only expected of us, but also the way in which we should conduct ourselves for our customers, and Donna continues to show she has what it takes to make sure we stay on the right track.”

Sherie Lewis joined the bank in 2005 as a teller, but wasted no time exhibiting the skills and desire to take on other, ever-increasing responsibilities. Some of those roles have included serving as the main office head teller, customer service representative, assistant branch manager, and working in both processing and underwriting for the bank’s very active mortgage lending department. In 2016 she moved to the bank’s Operations department. She graduated from the New England School for Financial Studies at Babson College in 2018 and recently enrolled in the Stonier Graduate School of Banking’s prestigious, three-year program (class of 2023) at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business that prepares the next generation of bank leadership.

“Sherie and I joined the bank within a couple of weeks of each other, so I have had the privilege of watching her grow over those years as she has taken on more responsibilities and shown her abilities and drive that have helped continue our success as a community bank,” said Yates. Most recently, Sherie led a team of other future bank leaders in the arduous process of successfully converting the bank’s online banking platform and showed the kind of leadership we as an organization need for the future.”
