Vermont Electric Power announces personnel appointments, promotions

Vermont Electric Power Company recently announced the following personnel appointments and promotions: Maura Collins, elected to the board of directors; Jaime Smyrski, promoted to corporate secretary; and Colin Owyang, appointed as chief operating officer.

Collins, executive director of the Vermont Housing FInance Agency since 2019, joins the VELCO board as a representative of the Vermont Low Income Trust for Electricity. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Vermont.

Smyrski has been an integral member of the VELCO for more than 14 years. She most recently served as assistant secretary before her promotion to corporate secretary. She is a member of the Society of Corporate Governance and the Eastern New England Chapter for Corporate Governance.

Owyang rejoined VELCO in February as senior vice president and assumed the chief operating officer role from recently retired Chris Root. Prior to that, Owing served as general counsel and head of strategy at Franklin Energy. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Yale University and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Owyang also serves as vice chair of the board of trustees at Champlain College.
