Town & Village of Ludlow announces new Municipal Manager

On April 12, 2018, the Town & Village of Ludlow Board Chairs unanimously voted to appoint Scott Murphy as the new Municipal Manager. Murphy will take over the reins from Frank Heald, who is stepping down after 15 years of service to the Ludlow community.

“I am honored to be selected as the next Municipal Manager in Ludlow," Murphy said. “There are so many positive things going for Ludlow and I am excited to get to know the members of the boards, staff and residents of Ludlow.”

Murphy most recently served as Town Manager of Wilmington where he spearheaded the recovery efforts after Tropical Storm Irene devastated town’s infrastructure and supervised a $2.5 million wastewater facility upgrade. As a senior manager for the Town of Bennington, Murphy was instrumental in the procurement of Federal and State grants, managed the towns revolving loan funds and oversaw the recreation department and senior center.

Born and raised in Beverly, MA, Scott graduated from St. Johns Prep in Danvers, MA and from North Adams State College with a bachelor of science in business management. After college, Scott moved to Bennington, VT to start a successful business called the Bennington Bagel Company, which he sold in 2005 to start his career in finance and municipal government. Scott and his wife and family reside in Bennington.

“We believe that Scott has the depth and breadth of experience to make an outstanding Municipal Manager, commented Howard Barton, Jr., Chair of the Select Board.

“We welcome Scott’s sense of community spirit and feel he will be a great fit for the Ludlow community”, commented Robert Gilmore, Village Trustees Chair.

“Scott’s background in finance and municipal government is going to serve the Town and Village of Ludlow well,” commented David Rose, Water Commission, Chair.

Scott Murphy will start work as Ludlow’s new Municipal Manager on April 23rd and will work closely with Frank Heald during the transition over the next several weeks.
