John Toney, former global chief information security officer at Dallas-based City Electric Supply, has been appointed chief information security officer for the state of Vermont.
“Effective security is more than an IT responsibility, it’s a team effort,” said Denise Reilly-Hughes, secretary of the Agency of Digital Services and chief information officer for the state. “We are fortunate to have John help in advancing Vermont’s security priorities of protecting state services and Vermonters.”
Toney brings more than two decades of expertise in information security to his new position. He formerly worked as a special agent with the Secret Service, specializing in network intrusion crimes and critical systems protection.
Toney is a graduate of Michigan State University and earned executive CISO certification from Carnegie Mellon University.
