The board of directors of Vermont Electric Power Company have voted unanimously to promote General Counsel, Senior Director and Sustainability Director Mark Sciarrotta to vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer. The board's action represents Sciarrotta’s latest advancement in his 15-plus-year career at VELCO.
“Mark’s business experience, record of accomplishment and network of relationships make him the perfect choice at this time of transformational change in our industry,” said CEO Tom Dunn. “Just as importantly, his embrace of helping to create a culture of sustainability and belonging will be invaluable as VELCO works to create a sustainable Vermont through our people, relationships, assets and unique business structure.”
Prior to his arrival at VELCO, Sciarrotta worked as an assistant attorney general in the Vermont attorney general’s office, where he represented the state in all aspects of complex civil litigation and criminal prosecutions in state and federal courts, including jury trials and appeals. He defended takings claims, environmental permit appeals and constitutional challenges as well as prosecuted major environmental cases.
Sciarrotta is a graduate of Rider University in New Jersey and holds a law degree from Vermont Law School.
