Poulin Grain adds Franciso San Emerterio to team as dairy support technician

Poulin Grain, animal nutrition and feed company in the northeastern United States, has added Francisco San Emerterio as a Dairy Support Technician. He will be providing technical support to Poulin Grain’s dairy customers in New England and New York. Mike Tetreault, Poulin Grain’s Senior Vice President, explains, “Francisco’s technical and dairy experience is a great fit for innovative, driven dairies focused on enhancing their farm’s performance and profitability. We’re pleased to welcome him to our support team.”

Francisco completed his undergraduate degree in Mexico at Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in 1994. While he was working in his undergraduate education he started an intensive rotational grazing operation to produce milk in the central part of Mexico, and also operated a cheese and yogurt plant. San Emerterio earned his PhD from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1998 under Larry Satter’s supervision at the US Dairy Forage Research Center. During this time, he studied different methods to preserve corn grain and the interactions between moisture, grind side, starch digestibility and microbial protein synthesis. He went on to complete his MBA at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1999 where he developed financial tools for Dairy Strategies LLC, where he worked until the fall of 2000. San Emerterio went on to work for an animal feed company in the Midwest, where he developed several handheld tools that allow dairy nutritionists to collet pertinent information about their customers’ dairies while on the farm.

In 2006 San Emerterio founded Dairy Business International, LLC out of Oregon, WI and provided private consulting to large dairy operations throughout the US including WI, MN, MI, TX and NM. The tools and strategies he implemented allowed for the development of goals and metrics that were meaningful to the bottom line of the dairy operation. In 2012 Francisco started consulting for farms in South America and continues to work with dairies in Chile, Colombia and Peru.

In 2017 San Emerterio expanded his relationship with Poulin Grain, who he had provided technical support for since 2012. He now spends the majority of his time working as a technical support consultant for Poulin Grain throughout the northeast region of the US San Emerterio’s new role at Poulin Grain will elevate the level of service and technical expertise available to their dairy customers. Working alongside exceptional nutritionists, he will help dairy farms manage data, identify areas of opportunity, increase herd performance and ultimately provide insights focused on the farm’s bottom line.
